Anastasia René Trio

Anastasia René began singing at age 6 when she began training with vocal coach, Jerry Bragin. After graduating from NYC’s prestigious Talent Unlimited High School program, she continued on in various choirs through college and received a Bachelors degree in African and African American music.

After college she quickly secured her own weekly gig at the Village Gate, and was brought on to sing backing vocals for Buzzy Linhart. After moving to Boston, where she and 9 graduates of New England Conservatory and Berklee founded The Daddys, a Funk orchestra which enjoyed 4 successful years together, a sponsorship from Daddy’s Junky Music and a Boston Music Award nomination for best Funk Band in 1995. Afterward she worked in myriad genres, recording and performing with local and regional rock, folk, R&B, reggae and funk bands.

After 9 successful years of working in the New England music scene, she returned to New York and was immediately called back to Boston to work with multiple Boston Music Award winners Superhoney and later Jam band Percy Hill literally tracked her down for a special 12 piece project resulting in the double CD Percy Hill Live. After the Percy Hill project, she joined Gent Treadly, a New York-based jam band which was also the East Coast backup band for the Grateful Dead’s Vince Welnick and did live work with the Zen Tricksters and Reid Genauer and the Assembly of Dust. All the while, keeping her jazz chops honed with her own quartet which toured Moscow and Siberia in 2005. In 2012 she joined European Blues sensation Roberto Morbioli and Roomful of Blues onstage at the Luxembourg Blues Fest.

She recently completed a 3-year residency at New York City's Blue Water Grill and can often be seen singing with Neville Brothers' saxophonist Charles Neville and New Orleans piano phenomenon Henry Butler.

Most recent recorded work includes Gwen Wahman's Certitude on Mike Longo's CAP record label, reggae artist Bigga Haitian's Sak Pase, rock band El Camino’s Autobiotics, and Smooth Jazz artist Matt Marshak’s This Time Around, amongst others.

She cites such musical influences as Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughn, Chaka Khan, and Cassandra Wilson.
