Avram Fefer (born in San Francisco, CA) is a saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, bandleader and private teacher residing in New York City. He began his career in Paris, France, where he recorded with The Last Poets, Archie Shepp, and numerous other American expats. He has recorded eleven albums as a leader, is featured on many others as sideman, and has performed in clubs and festivals throughout Europe, Japan, Africa, and the Middle East. His writings have been published in several books; he has appeared on Conan O’Brian, contributed music to Louis C.K.; and appeared on stage in award-winning director Melvin Van Peebles’ production of Sweet Sweetback’s Baaadaaaas Song. He is the creator and sole performer of the Resonant Sculpture Project, an innovative international series of solo musical interactions with the large-scale works of sculptor Richard Serra. He maintains a thriving private-teaching practice in downtown Manhattan, teaches master classes at schools around the world, and teaches several students via Skype.
